The Radisson Golden Sands Resort and Spa, the tourist complex in the north side of Malta has been awarded a Green Award for the sustainable design and the measures taken for the protection of the environment. The design of the MEP systems responsible for this sustainable design was done by C&C Consulting Engineers. With their innovative designs and the technology used the energy consumption of Golden Sands is more that 40% less on a per square meter basis that the other 5 star hotel owned by Island Hotels under the Radisson Brand in Malta. Radisson has compared the energy and water usage of this modern complex with those of other hotels in Central Europe and the UK and here the differences are evn larger. This low energy consumption had been achieved without prejudice to the very high quality of service given to the guests of the Golden Sands Resort.

Included in the energy consumption is the generation of first class and second class water supplies that meet all the requirements of the complex. The Golden Sands produces all first class water using reverse Osmosis plants on site directly from sea water. Also, all the waste water is treated by a black water sewage treatment plant and the reclaimed water is used for second class water services within the hotel such as irrigation water, wc flushing water and washing water for patios etc. More so, even in summer more second class water is produced that actually needed in the complex and the additional water is given to nearby farmers to irrigate their land, indirectly enhancing the environment around the complex.
